Drama

Our theatre classes have lately been about bonding with the new teacher. Right after a casual and fun introduction round, we got down to work. A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen, was our first assignment to build upon. We unravelled the plot and discussed ways in which to replicate the storyline or write an entirely new one that is inspired by the book. We bounced ideas of either switching the gender roles or tweaking and toning the story. We are yet to arrive at a consensus before we begin working on a formal script.
Music

We composed a melody using the lyrics we had created in our last assignment and performed the compositions with our group members in the class. Our goal was to create something new and unique. All the songs were quite different and were related to past experiences of our lives. It was an engaging activity as it helped us connect with our own emotions thereby providing an outlet to express them through our music. We used our understanding of the music theory to work on the elements and locate the chord progression for the songs.

Language and literature The new term began with establishing certain essential agreements. We began the new unit, The King’s Speech, with an introduction to media analysis. We analysed three different types of posters by determining the rhetorical triangle for each and identifying how the linguistic and visual elements lend to their effectiveness.

We are currently participating in a class activity where we have identified strengths of each of our classmates by using adjectives. Once each of us received this list of ‘validation’, we entered these descriptions into the Johari window and shared how we felt about some of those. Next, we identified one aspect of our personality that hinders us from maximising our potential. We are in the process of creating a plan of action to overcome this by using an external agency and documenting our progress in our journals.

Math We began our new term with an ice-breaking activity in which we were given insight about the growth mindset and the fixed mindset. Chemistry

The new unit in Chemistry was introduced through an interesting video on the importance of chemistry in our life and we were asked to brainstorm the topic for the new unit, which came out to be ‘Organic Chemistry’. We then related the video with the chemistry involved in all living forms on earth as well as in the objects we use in daily life, such as paper, wood, leather, fuels, food and many more. In groups we worked upon five factual, conceptual and debatable questions. The questions were then placed on wall so that with the progression of unit, we could answer them. Thereafter, we analysed the unique and versatile behavior of carbon and figured out the reason for ‘Organic Chemistry’ being a separate branch of the subject. We also researched why all carbon-containing molecules cannot be categorized as organic compounds. An engaging activity was then conducted where we to picked up one object within the classroom boundaries and categorized it as organic or inorganic and supported our opinion with reasoning.
