|Language and literature||We have completed the reading of the novel ‘My Family and Other Animals’.
We watched a video clip of one of the episodes from the movie adaptation of the book. We compared and contrasted how the author and the director create humor in both text types using the tools available to them. As part of descriptive writing skill, we annotated the words and phrases used by the author that create vivid images in the minds of the readers. We practiced writing several short descriptive passages.
|Math||In the last two weeks, we started our new topic of linear equations and gradient. We also had one formative based on linear equations on AssessPrep and understood the topics of gradient better by watching a few videos on Khan Academy. Thereafter, we practiced it by solving questions online.
In the last two weeks, we wrapped up our group presentations and revised the concepts on the three pressure laws in gases. We started a new topic – specific heat and latent heat. We worked in teams to understand meaning of terms ‘specific heat’ and ‘latent heat’ by using internet as a source. Then we were asked to explain the terms in our own words. We discussed our homework, which was on planning an investigation.
We had our formative assessment on the energy changes in the chemical reactions and alternatives to fossil fuels. We also discussed the homework assignment and clarified our doubts. We had an engaging think-pair-share activity on energy changes in various chemical reactions happening in our daily life. This was done to reinforce the concept and for error correction in our last assessment.
We discussed homeostasis, various glands, hormones and their roles in our body. We tested the presence of nutrients like starch, reducing sugars, lipids and proteins in various samples of food using different reagents. We concluded our first unit by a formative assessment.
|Individuals & societies||In the 15 days that have passed, our summative assessment was conducted, thus concluding the unit ‘Economic Powers’ and began a new one, ‘Food and Health’. We read a newspaper article to discuss the factors affecting production of food. We also talked about millet and we plan to design a menu using products made from millet for our school.
We had a story telling session of a Rajasthani folktale ‘Kavya aur baagh’. We had a discussion about human values and ethics based on this story. We also watched a short film ‘Dar’ (Swami aur uske dost) in class. We wrote articles to discuss and answer the question whether the humanity is becoming completely selfish in present time. We read many other stories during class reading sessions.
We watched a Hindi feature film ‘Pankh’, which tells the story of an anonymous traveler’s arrival to a village, how he develops good connections there and disappears afterwards. We watched another short movie also named ‘The joy of giving’. We read a travelogue article ‘Ek path ke liye ek shahar ki khoj’ and discussed how travelling different places gives us opportunity to explore about History and old cultures. We read a story by Mukesh Nautiyal ‘Ek boodhi kahani’ and discussed the challenges in life and, after a discussion, wrote an article to discuss and answer the question whether life can really be called a journey.
We explored the advantages and disadvantages of the Internet as well as made posters to mark an end to the current unit. In grammar, we revised the tenses that we have studied previously and learnt how to give commands, suggestions and advice by using “L’Imperatif”. Using the grammar book resources, we read dialogues and understood the usage and formation of imperatives in affirmative and negative forms for regular and irregular verbs. We practiced some exercises and this also helped us revise the present tense, since it is crucial in learning other grammatical concepts too.
We appeared for a formative assessment of criteria C and D. We practiced pictures descriptions in class. We explored how people used to communicate in past and the evolution changed the ways of communication.”
|We learnt about various wooden joints and their uses. The intent of the unit was to understand the wooden joint and its application while creating products. We researched and analysed a range of wooden joints suitable to create our end products. Since it was a group activity, it was fun to collaborate with our group members.
|During the past two weeks we have been planning for our website by creating wireframes diagrams. This week, for strand 3, we reflected on our designs with the help of our peers. This enabled us to identify a suitable design for our website. This planning will help us create an appropriate website for criterion C.
|We did an aural exercise in which the teacher played random chords on the keyboard and we had to identify the type and character of that chord.
|As our practical work is nearing completion. we tried to analyze ways of creating colour perspectives as well as new language in art by symbolic representation of colours. Through our final art work we are trying to include the concepts of different artists and the ways they can be applied to contemporary forms. We also started writing our reflections on the unit.
|We practiced a “6-minute walk test” for aerobic endurance. We also discussed the purpose and procedure of this test. Also, we practiced the skills of different sports of our choice during sports EDGE.|
